HORSEMANSHIP FOR POLOCROSSE

'Sit in the middle of your horse' - weight & seat aids

Simply put, given a chance, horses will go where you put your weight.
Unfortunately riders often do not put their weight in the direction they want to go because they do not know how.
Riding a horse that responds to the weight aids, or to how you change the weight and contact of your seat, is exhilarating—hardly a rein or
leg is needed. The horse seems to respond to where you look, read your mind, and be directly connected to your spirit.
No matter what sort of riding you do, you want to get top performance from your horse by supporting your horse's balance and movement
and this starts with an accurate kinesthetic sense, or sense of your body and movement.

Horsemanship in Polocrosse DVD

The Queensland Polocrosse Association Inc. (QPA) considers it has a
huge depth of horsemanship experience, knowledge and ability within
the association. It is important that this is developed and presented in a
useable form.

Therefore it is planned to develop a series of DVD’s on horsemanship
for polocrosse instruction, to standardise the polocrosse horsemanship
training program.

The first in the series of Horsemanship for Polocrosse DVD’s
has been developed and produced by Mr Murray Sturgess (a well
respected polocrosse player and horseman) and Mr Noel Challis
(QPA Player Development Officer).

This DVD is a training package for riders wishing to improve.

It works through a series of 21 lessons and is designed to increase
skill and knowledge, and to build on horsemanship techniques.

... Horsemanship Courses ...

Murray Sturgess has been invited to numerous Clubs recently to conduct horsemanship courses before the commencement of the season.
They have all been extremely well received. The following is a section of one email sent to the QPA office....

“Dear Sue,
Last weekend we had a horsemanship clinic with Murray Sturgess, organised by our President Liam
Gibson through Eric Beresford (State Coaching Director).
Everyone found it really good and in many cases the penny has now dropped on horsemanship
skills that we have been trying to achieve for many years. We will be incorporating what we have
learned into our practice days.
We would thoroughly recommend any player of any skill level attending a horsemanship school with
Murray and to purchase the DVD as they are a must-have backup.
I just wanted to pass onto the QPA our thorough endorsement and thanks for their sponsorship of this training.
 Kind regards
Peter North
Secretary Bollon Polocrosse Club”
