The History of International Polocrosse

1983 - Australia hosted the First International Test Match Series with two test matches played between Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe. Australia defeated New Zealand in the finals of both Tests.

1988 - Australia hosted an Australia v’s The World Men’s Test Series with overseas players coming from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Zimbabwe to make up The World team. Three Test Matches were held with Australia winning two and The World one.

1997 - South Africa hosted a Quadrangular Test Series. This was for mixed teams (3 men and 3 women in each team) and was between Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Zimbabwe; with Zimbabwe winning the series.

Regular test matches are held between nations on a one on one basis.

2003 – 1st Polocrosse World Cup hosted by the Warwick Club on behalf of Polocrosse Australia at Morgan Park, Warwick, Queensland in Australia. Eight nations gathered to compete - Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, USA and Zimbabwe.

2007 – 2nd Polocrosse World Cup again held at Morgan Park Warwick in Queensland, Australia, with the same eight nations competing Australia, Canada, England, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, USA and Zimbabwe. Players from France, the Netherlands and Zambia competed in the concurrent Australian Equine Alliance Club Carnival as they were not eligible to compete in the World Cup.

Interest in Polocrosse is growing around the world as part of the general global increase in recreational horse riding. There is active participation in the sport in Zambia, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Norway, with growing interest in Polocrosse in a number of other new countries. Demonstration matches performed in China, in association with the Australian Stock Horse Society, attracted considerable interest.

2008 - United Kingdom hosted a UK v’s Australia Test Series. The Australian team won all four games. Click here for details
