Junior Development Program - Australian
The Polocrosse Association of Australia (PAA) Junior Polocrosse Squad will be established in 2009 to develop and train juniors for Elite Level Polocrosse. This Squad will consist of 18 junior players from around Australia between the ages of 12 and 16 in the year 2009.
The Squad will have the opportunity to participate in a week long Boot Camp in every non-Nationals year. The inaugural camp will be held at Sale, Victoria from 19 - 26th January 2009.
The format will involve the establishment of mixed playing teams and players will ride Pool Horses allocated to each team upon arrival. The teams will be coached and trained in personal fitness, diet, nutrition, horsemanship, game tactics and strategies. At the conclusion of the Camp there will be a round-robin competition, with the emphasis not upon the winning of the final, but of displaying the skills learnt during the camp.
The Australian Selectors will then select and announce an Australian Junior Team from the Squad. This Team will then play in a Test Match with South Africa from 10 - 12 April 2009, in conjunction with the Sale Club Tournament in Victoria.
Junior Development Program - Queensland
Junior Development is a major priority area for the Queensland Polocrosse Association. Each Zone has a Junior Development Coordinator who works with
the state coordinator and many Clubs now have Junior Development Officer also.
Queensland holds an annual Junior Coaching and Development weekend with qualified coaches in horsemanship, game tactics and strategies. This alternates with the Junior Selection Trials weekend held prior to a Nationals year and usually includes coaching and development for all interested juniors.
Junior Development Program - Zone and Club
Each Zone and Club should have a Junior Development Officer. The Zone and Club Officers will liaise with the Queensland Junior Development Officer to develop junior polocrosse at a Zone and Club level, to further the growth of junior polocrosse and to assist in the development of junior players skills.
