The History
(Notes from Mr Bill McCutcheon)

"Polocrosse at the Sydney Royal Easter Show was played during the 1960’s as a two way competition between NSW and Victoria. After strong representation by the QPA, through then President Mr John Thompson, Queensland was invited to join a three way competition in 1972.

The first team comprised:
Lyn Nation (Hutton) – Cunningham              Lindsay Payne – Eidsvold
Jill Galloway (Arnell) – Biloela                      Clive Gleeson – Blackall
Joan Crawford (Schmidt) – Kumbia              Brian Mullins – Gatton
Barb McCutcheon – Chinchilla                     Bill McCutcheon – Chinchilla

John Thompson was Team Manager and he continued in this role until the Show moved to their new grounds at Homebush in 1998 – a period of 26 years! This incidentally was the first fully state selected team. Previous state teams were selected from nominations.
The basic tri-state competition has remained, but some other states have participated and a number of other team combinations besides open mixed have been contested."
"Queensland has been successful on quite a few occasions, but win or lose competing in Sydney has always been a highlight of any polocrosse players career," Bill said.

Today the Sydney Show competition is still played between NSW, Queensland and Victoria, during the Sydney Royal Easter Show each year and it remains a senior mixed competition.
Polocrosse is played at the Royal Easter Show to add to the centre ring spectacle, to demonstrate the sport to the show visitors.
Queensland players are now selected from nominations called for prior to the Queensland State Titles each year. The Senior State Selectors then view players at the State Titles that have nominated for consideration in this competition in the following year.

2007 - Queensland did not send a team due the Polocrosse World Cup being held.
2008 - Queensland did not send a team due the Equine Influenza outbreak.

2009 Sydney Show Competition
...........
.... was held at the Royal Easter Show, Homebush Park, Sydney from 19th to 22nd April 2009.....
In 2009, NSW and Queensland teams played 4 games against each other, as Victoria had withdrawn from the competition for this year.
Therefore the teams were increased from the usual 6 players to an 8 player mixed team to help facilitate this.
Queensland WON - 3 games to 1!!
