Upper Hunter Regional Show
The Intermediate series as we know it takes place at the Upper Hunter Regional Show and Expo in Muswellbrook NSW two weeks before the Royal Easter Show in Sydney.
The origin of the series was in Tamworth in 1984 where the very first game was at a senior level. The next year in 1984 it became the Under 21 NSW -v- Qld and continued at the Tamworth Show where Gary Craig and his helpers organised the games and trophies until the Show committee couldn’t accommodate the Polocrosse.
Terry Blake indicated that Muswellbrook would welcome the series there and in 1999 the Intermediate Polocrosse series found a new home at the Muswellbrook Show as it was known as then.
Since 1999 the competition has alternated between Open and Mixed competition and in some instances the girls have played in the Open teams and mixed it with the best of them. There have been some fierce battles with NSW leading the way with six series wins
The Muswellbrook Polocrosse Club host the NSW and Qld players and their supporters during their stay and there is an official dinner on the Thursday followed by two games on the Friday. A social night is organised for Friday night and the last game is held on Saturday after the Grand Parade. It is a great steppingstone for the young players to gain experience representing their state before moving out into the senior ranks.
