The Queensland Zones were formed as a part of the QPA for administrative purposes.
The State was originally divided into seven Zones: Capricornia, Central West, Far North, Leichhardt, North West, Outback and South East Queensland.
It wasn't long before the idea of the Queensland Zone Championships arose with its debut in 1981 and these have been held bi-annually since.
Today with the general trend and population migration from the west to the east, only six Zones remain.
The host club for the Queensland Zone Championships is selected from those clubs who nominate
in writing to the QPA to hold the event.
