          Volunteers

Volunteers are vital to the success of the 2007 Cup

Critical to the success of the Ridley Polocrosse World Cup 2007 will be an army of passionate, committed and friendly volunteers. Interstate and international visitors form a lasting impression of the hospitality of the Australians who will provide the backbone of our volunteer programme.

Volunteers will be required to meet a range of selection criteria and perform a range of tasks. More information is provided below. Whether working with horses, in catering or ground care, ticketing or administration, all our volunteers can expect to take home unforgettable memories drawn from their front- line involvement in this world class sporting event.

Meet our first international volunteer

You'd have to really love horses to take a month off work, travel halfway around the world and shovel out horse stalls, but that's what 49-year old Irishman John Maguire (above) will be doing.

The important role played by our volunteers cannot be underestimated and once again we are confident that our regional and Polocrosse communities will show their true colours.

GREAT PRIZES TO BE WON Register as an official World Cup volunteer and you'll go into the draw for a fabulous Captain Cook Cruise for two. Valued at A$3000, you could win a three night Barrier Reef cruise on the MV Reef Endeavour. Prize includes all accommodation, meals, on-board facilities, guided rainforest and island walks. To complete the form – click here to open. You can either submit it on line or print off and fax to 07 5463 5028.

Timetable

Applications for the volunteer programme will close on 28 February 2007. Once you lodge your application we will respond to you as soon as possible. In order that we can process all applications efficiently, please do not to contact the Volunteers Co-ordinator regarding the status of individual applications, unless you have a specific change in circumstances which may affect your availability.

Training

We will provide orientation and briefing on-site ahead of the event. Initially, the volunteer co-ordinator will provide general information about the Cup as well as about the individual’s specific areas of responsibility. Training for the event will take place during the week of 15 April 2007, when volunteers will have the chance to get to know the organising executive as well as other volunteers.

Tasks

Assignments for volunteers vary considerably in nature, in duration and in working hours. A few of our volunteers will support the 2007 Polocrosse World Cup by recruiting and managing other volunteers. Primarily we will be looking for volunteers to work outdoors with horses and you will need to be available at Morgan Park for the period 16-29 April 2007 inclusive.

Once all the horse volunteers have been recruited we may be looking for other volunteers. This will be posted here when required.

Advantages

Volunteer horse handlers who participated in the successful 2003 Polocrosse World Cup have benefited from developing an international network of Polocrosse contacts. Many have developed these relationships and since travelled overseas.

The greatest reward for your contribution as a volunteer is the unique opportunity to experience the 2007 Polocrosse World Cup at first hand. Each full time horse volunteer will receive a range of benefits, including an official World Cup uniform.
