         Welcome

In association with our Principal Sponsor, Queensland Events Corporation, in April 2007 it will be my great pleasure to welcome you to Queensland for the Ridley Polocrosse World Cup 2007.

On Monday 23 April 2007 the World Cup will be officially opened by the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia - His Excellency Major General Michael Jeffery AC CVO MC (Retd). His Excellency is patron of the Polocrosse Association of Australia.

At Australia's finest Polocrosse facility, during Cup week we will witness the greatest contest the sport has seen since it was invented in Australia in 1938. This second Polocrosse World Cup will be hotly contested as seven guest nations vie to wrestle the Cup from Australia. A number of other nations have expressed interest in attending to participate outside the main competition and we look forward to welcoming enthusiasts from France, The Netherlands and Zambia as well.

After successfully staging the inaugural event in 2003, Warwick is proud to have won the rights to stage the second World Cup competition in 2007. We are planning an entertaining programme on and off the field.

We achieved this because of the massive volunteer contribution by our local community and because of the support of the Queensland government through Queensland Events Corporation. Once again I am indebted to those and many other individuals who made this dream a reality.

Competition will be held at Morgan Park, which is located just 8.5 kms east of the historic town of Warwick on Queensland’s Southern Downs. The region is situated just inland from the east coast. Two national highways serve the region which is a two hours drive from Brisbane and Queensland’s Gold Coast.

This is an area rich in natural attractions and tourist facilities. It is home to the new Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre and within an hour's drive of the Queensland wine capital. Aside from viewing world class Polocrosse, this ideal short break destination for Australians is easily accessible to international visitors wanting to explore other parts of the country.

Polocrosse enthusiasts want one day to see their sport in the Olympic arena. The Ridley Polocrosse World Cup 2007 takes that dream another step closer to reality.

We look forward to welcoming you to Warwick – home of the Polocrosse World Cup.

Les Fraser, Chairman
