From
its origins in Sydney in 1938 the sport is now played across Australia.
Currently there are approximately 200 clubs in both rural and urban areas
across Australia with some 4000 players of all ages participating in the sport.
The Polocrosse Association of Australia (PAA) was formed at the
suggestion of the late Mrs. Marjory Hirst at a meeting in Sydney
on 17 October 1946. Foundation members included Clubs representing
Burradoo, Ingleburn, Nowra, Northern Suburbs and Wollongong.
Over the years the following state associations were formed and
affiliated with the PAA:

The first Interstate Championships were held at Ballarat, Victoria,
on 14th March 1953 between New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.
The Governor-General Sir Paul Hasluck first accepted Patronage of the PAA in November 1969 and succeeding Governors-General have continued the patronage.
The PAA was incorporated in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT)
on 22nd December 1986. Australian National Polocrosse Championships
have been held biennially throughout Australia.
The last National Championships was hosted by the Tasmanian Association and held at Albury in New South Wales (NSW). The next National Championships are to be held at Camden in NSW(hosted by the NSW Association) and will be held from 2-8 October 2006. For more information see www.polocrosse.org.au
