| Queensland’s
Southern Downs
Stepping out from the hustle and bustle of the urban cities of
south east coastal Queensland, you’ll discover the natural
wonders, country hospitality and great food and wines of Queensland’s
Southern Downs.

 |
Located two hours drive from Brisbane (176km) and the Gold Coast (240km), this unique region provides a great escape for those keen to head for the hills for an alternative Queensland holiday! |

The
three main areas within the Southern Downs are:
- Warwick and District
- Stanthorpe and District
- Clifton, Inglewood and Texas
Weather
This is autumn in Australia and whilst Warwick can expect
glorious days it can also experience quite cool nights. Temperatures
may range from 6° to 25° Celsius (43° - 77° F) daily and it is
advisable to pack some warm clothing for those spectacular night
matches which are played under floodlight. To check the weather in this part of southeast Queensland click this link on the forecast for southeast Queensland and look for Granite Belt region.
Warwick and District
The historic centre of Warwick on Queensland's Southern Downs is
the Rose and Rodeo capital of Queensland. It may sound like an unlikely
combination, but Warwick is a city of surprises. Neighbouring Allora
and Killarney offer their own special tourist drives and visitor experiences.
Stanthorpe and District
Its spectacular granite formation, exquisite wines and fruit and
vibrant festivals, make Stanthorpe the ultimate getaway destination.
Stanthorpe bosts almost 50 wineries and is just 30 minutes drive south of Warwick. It is
ideal as a base, for a day trip or a short break before or after your World Cup experience.
Whether you crave a romantic weekend in a cottage nestled amongst
the vines or an adventurous escape in one of the four National Parks
in the area, Stanthorpe will not disappoint.
Clifton, Inglewood and Texas
Clifton was one of the three stations stocked in the first year
of the Downs Settlement in 1840. Its beautifully picturesque main
street and a charming old railway station have been used in many
period film sets.
Travel west from Warwick on the Cunningham Highway, you have the
opportunity of visiting Leslie Dam a popular site for fishing, swimming
and boating and then onto Inglewood, Australia’s olive capital.
A long way from the US of A, Texas Queensland boasts a population
of just 900. This traditional sheep and cattle area, also has orchards,
small crops, horses, deer and ostrich farms as well as logging and
sawmilling and some picturesque fishing spots.
